RecruiterSpace San Diego

a place for recruiters

Thanks, Simon, for the “tag” I received from Sitting Xlegged. I am new to this; not to reading and enjoying blogs, but to writing them. Anyway, I started this reply process by jotting down some of the “random” things that are important about me - stuff my close friends and family probably "GET" about me. Then, I remembered something from high school. I wonder, do you recall Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs? I tried to put in a picture of the 'pyramid' here but it didn't take. Anyway, Maslow was a psychologist in the 70’s who said we all have certain needs and if our needs aren’t met we shouldn’t expect to be able to thrive and move toward the top of the pyramid (hierarchy). This isn’t a Psychology lesson so I’ll stop with that 'crude' interpretation. So, after jotting down a couple of the not so random things, I noticed that they could be linked to the Pyramid. I’ve moved up and down this pyramid… life has not always been easy for me. One thing is for sure… I consistently have my eye on the top of the pyramid and I stumble, just like everybody else does. I strive to reside at the peak. This is where I can learn, enjoy art and music, realize my potential and help others realize theirs (mostly my kids and some willing- to- learn co-workers). I have realized recently that I am the happiest I’ve been in some time. So, jotting down my not so random things was not really as "daunting" as I grumbled to Simon the task would be. It was actually quite fun and interesting to identify where the things that are important to me fall on the pyramid (refer to the parenthesis for where my things fall on the hierarchy... and "google" your own damn snapshot of the pyramid if you can't recall what the heck I'm referring to). So, here it goes: eight not so random things that are important to me… without the eight tags (sorry, I guess I will forever be "it").:

  1. Food: (Psychological) – Anything with oozing cheese or frosting suits me - Italian, Mexican; Cinnabon and cake with buttercream icing. Now, to redeem myself: my husband and I splurge on Food/Wine tasting events. Favorites have been enjoyed at Picasso in The Bellagio, Las Vegas and at Victoria & Albert’s in The Grand Floridian, Disneyworld Resort.
  2. Drink: (Psychological) – The mighty sales duo Justin & Jeremy, of Accountants Inc., are always willing fetch me a Coke from AM/PM whenever I need a midday boost. And, I admit, I am a Wine-O… Pinot Noir works just fine in the evening and a nice Pinot Grigio alongside a tasty midday entrée on a warm weekend afternoon is quite a treat.
  3. Work: (Safety) – I thought I’d never find the right ‘career’ for myself. I love being a Recruiter and I don’t think I could be happier with another firm at this time of my life. Accountants Inc. – It’s the place I choose to be - they treat me well!!
  4. Family: (Love) – Great husband, daughter and son. I really miss my Mom, though – She died of a brain aneurysm when I was 21.
  5. Friends: (Love) – I’m known for making friends wherever I go. My best friends are from my College days as an active member of Alpha Phi Sorority. I’m lucky to have “earned” some great ones over the past 9.5 years living in San Diego, too. Friendship is about give and take and my motto is this: play nice and be proud and supportive of others. Turn off the drama and jealousy – realize you can learn something from everyone you meet and just be kind - "Can't we all just get along?"
  6. Learning: (Self Actualization – Cognitive) – Cal State University, San Bernardino is highly underrated. It is and was an outstanding institute of higher learning and I’m proud to be a Coyote! If I lived closer I would be more involved. I am degreed in both English & Communications. I wanted to be just like Connie Chung back in the day- today I guess it would be Katie Couric (minus the political views).
  7. Music: (Self Actualization - Aesthetic) – Contrary to current belief, I am not a Hilary Duff fan, my daughter is and I support her “fandom” since Hilary is the best role model I’ve seen for youngsters in some time – (Dignity Tour: SDSU Open Air Theater – was a wonderful show(right, Julie Chicoine of Callaway Golf?! We ran into her there... just kidding!). Anyway, I actually prefer alternative rock music - Killers, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Death Cab are some of my current favorites I can’t listen to in the car with my kids (thus Wiggles and Duff are in my car's CD changer and XM Disney on the dial!). But, I’m OLD and so I stay true to Depeche Mode (I’ve been to every SoCal Concert since Black Celebration), Counting Crows, Live, Crowded House to name a few. Oh, and I’ve recently started liking Gwen Stefani again… I prefer No Doubt, but she’s making some money with her hip hoppin' junk and "it's got a good beat and it's easy to dance to" and so, heck. Also, she has a mouth to feed and I respect her earning some extra dough selling out – sorry G!
  8. Interests- How I would spend additional time (Self Transcendence – beyond the peak): I would like to have more time to focus here… career, rearing two children and staying close with friends and family make it difficult to prioritize my interests which are Scrapping (I’m a couple of years behind - Sorry LJ), reading, writing (poetry I got this from my departed Mom) and going to the movies/theater on a regular basis.

That's it... I sort of finished the daunting task. I hope you enjoyed the not so randomness that is me! Let's get together and share a six pack... of COKE, that is! I'm outie!
